IoT based Indoor Navigation System using LoRa

Abstract

Indoor navigation is convenient for everyone, and it is especially indispensable for the visually impaired. Although acquiring accurate positional information and detecting directions indoors is difficult, we confirmed that using this system, accurate positional information, and travel direction can be obtained utilizing Lora communication technology. We proposed such a navigation system for the visually impaired. Lora transmits the location data and a microcontroller and Lora receiver receives the data. The microcontroller calculates the optimal path to a designation and speaks to the visually impaired through a headphone. IoT based Indoor Navigation System using LoRa

Introduction

People with visual disabilities, i.e., partially or totally blind, are often challenged by places that are not designed for their special condition. Examples of these places are bus and train terminals, public offices, hospitals, educational buildings, and shopping malls. Several every day? objects that are present in most built environments become real obstacles for blind people, even putting at risk their physical integrity. Simple objects such as chairs, tables, and stairs, hinder their movements and can often cause serious accidents. The main objective of the system is to provide, in real-time, useful navigation information that enables a user to make appropriate and timely decisions on which route to follow in an indoor space. In order to provide such information, the system must take into account all the objects in the immediate physical environment which may become potential? obstacles? for blind people. This kind of solution is known as a micro-navigation system. Two main aspects should be addressed by this system to provide navigation support: (1) detection of the position and movement intentions of a user, and (2) positioning of all the objects or possible obstacles in the environment. Proposed System:

Lora acts as a communication source. The transmitter unit is fitted to the wall/ceiling. In the transmitter, the modulated information is transmitted through Lora TX. The receiver unit modulates the encoded binary data and gives the response in the form of voice to the person. The receiver unit consists of a frequency that receives the information from the Lora transmitter. The information consists of location, and whenever the receiver module comes in the range of that transmitter area the corresponding location message is sent to the receiver is stored in the microcontroller and processed further to initiate voice to guide the person and vibrator motor to navigate the person which can assist visually impaired people at indoor places.

Working Principle:

Here it consists of two units:

  1. Transmitter unit
  2. Receiver?unit

The transmitter unit is fitted to the wall/ceiling. In the transmitter, the modulated information is transmitted through Lora Transmitter. The receiver unit demodulates the encoded binary data and gives the response in the form of voice to the person. The receiver unit consists of a frequency that receives the information from the Lora transmitter. The information consists of location, and whenever the receiver module comes in the range of that transmitter area then corresponding location message is sent to the receiver is stored in the microcontroller and processed further to initiate voice to guide the person and vibrator motor to navigate the person which can assist people at indoor places.?
