BAGGAGE TRACKING AND HANDLING BY RFID AND IOT IN AIRPORT USING NODEMCU


OBJECTIVE

A more secured algorithm is used for generating tags that are attached to printed baggage labels with the details of passengers and airlines stored in them. RFID readers in the check-out areas facilitate step tracking of baggage which prevents baggage loss.


ABSTRACT

The airline industry is one of the areas which have a strong potential to benefit from RFID and the Internet of Things. The most common Loopholes experienced in the Aviation industry for Baggage Handling are mislaid baggage, lost baggage, and damage to belongings. So for providing a better and secure system to the passengers, we have proposed a design of baggage tracing and handling system using smart RFID tags and IoT which is based on a cloud server. We have designed a prototype at two locations having both check-in and check-out processes. A more secured algorithm is used for generating tags that are attached to printed baggage labels with the details of passengers and airlines stored in it. RFID readers in the check-out areas facilitate step tracking of baggage which prevents baggage loss. The baggage’s real-time position is tracked and stored in a cloud using IoT and unique ID can be retrieved by the passengers wherever and whenever necessary. The same ID can be used while collecting bags at check-out counters. The system provided ensures less consumption of time, security for baggage, and is economical hence providing customer satisfaction.


INTRODUCTION

One of the most problematic processes air travelers go through is claiming their baggage at the airport. Often travelers have to wait days to get their baggage. This leads to a very inconvenient baggage system that is not very helpful for anybody. This problem arises due to human involvement in baggage sorting. This can be solved by introducing an automating baggage check-in system. This paper implements such a system based on Node MCU.


EXISTING SYSTEM

  1. In the existing method, GSM based technology has been implemented
  2. Cloud server not implemented
  3. System delay 
  4. Real-time is not possible.

DISADVANTAGES

    • Takes more time to find the luggage
    • Higher chance to misplace the luggage 
    • No way for the passenger to check luggage status.

    PROPOSED SYSTEM

    • In the proposed method IOT is being implemented
    • Cloud server has been introduced to store the information of passengers as well as protection for luggage’s SMS sent through IoT
    • We can store them in time and out the time of flight.

       ADVANTAGES

      • Fully automated system 
      • Passenger interface provides the current location of luggage
      • RFID tags provide a unique ID for the baggage
      • Can easily detect if any baggage is missing 
      • Easy to handle baggage.

      • Here RF reader is interfaced with node MCU using serial UART pin RXD0
      • Node MCU programming on each side will be different.
